All lawyers can benefit from legal project management, but a dedicated legal project manager would take the project management task away from other employees. When a dedicated legal project manager manages the efficiency, planning, and risk management of the project, you create consistency, clarity, and accountability. The Pro Bono Program Director develops, manages and maintains the Pro Bono Program by evaluating and approving proposed Pro Bono Projects; Teach and supervise students and supervisors with respect to appropriate pro bono projects and appropriate student work; Maintain, coordinate and maintain an accurate records system to track student projects and pro bono hours; Provide reports submitted to the Registrar certifying the completion of completion requirements for all student work under FIU`s mandatory pro bono program; and engages in academic and outreach work, including integration with the Bank and the Bar, to maintain the visibility of the program and support an overall environment conducive to the development of new programs by students. To keep everyone on track and move your projects forward as they should, set up a project management tool. With these tools, you can create tasks, mark tasks as completed, track all your projects, and more in one place.

Plus, they improve team collaboration, regardless of location. The Graduate Pro Bono Fellow develops and implements new pro bono programs, supervises projects, and mentors student volunteers. The pro bono program consists of two working students. Simply put, legal project managers use the principles of project management to help law firms operate more efficiently, cost-effectively, and client-centric. The Mithoff Pro Bono program consists of three full-time employees – Director, Lawyer and Project Coordinator. It also awards scholarships to more than twenty high school students per year to manage and direct certain projects. The Director is responsible for policy and management decisions for the program, and the Director and counsel are involved in the development and supervision of projects, work with students and volunteers, and work with law schools, legal service providers, lawyers` groups, and members of the private bar association. This is no different than what every project manager is responsible for when managing a project. You will see that the legal project management process is not that different either. It follows these five steps.

Some of the student group projects are part of a national network. These are the IRS-sponsored Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program (800) 829-1040; “Street Law,” a law-related educational project that has grown into an international non-profit organization called Street Law, Inc. (www.streetlaw.org, (202) 293-0088); and Innocence Projects, with its National Support Center for The Innocence Project at Cardozo Law School, Yeshiva University, www.innocenceproject.org/; (212) 790-0375). The Thelton E. Henderson Center`s staff includes a faculty director, an executive director, a program assistant, and various professional and undergraduate researchers. SLPS is staffed by students and supervised by lawyers from municipal legal service agencies or law firms, with additional support and supervision from the Professional Skills Program. An annual SLPS Fellow/Coordinator provides advice and guidance to SPLS leaders. The Associate Directors of the Office of Career Development for Public Interest Programs promote pro bono projects, promote these opportunities to students, educate students about Berkeley Law`s pro bono volunteer program, and encourage students to make pro bono contributions. As described in the section on curriculum structures above, some schools have built their pro bono programs around student group projects. Many of the other formal programs also work closely with student groups. Some simply consult with student groups and involve them in the formal program; Others help create new projects.

Each project requires a project manager. Whether the legal project manager should be a lawyer remains an open question. Arguably, a lawyer`s understanding of substantive issues can be helpful in making decisions and assessing priorities. On the other hand, most lawyers are not trained in project management and may tend to focus on the thorough execution of the project without being sufficiently attentive to the impact on budget, schedule or staff. Project management software helps legal teams organize tasks. ProjectManager provides interactive Gantt charts that you can share with your team and clients. You can link dependent tasks, set milestones, and define baselines. You`ll be able to track actual and planned efforts in real time so you can stick to the schedule.
