Our clinical programs are imbued with the interdisciplinary focus of Michigan Law. Founded in 1976, the Child Advocacy Law Clinic brings together psychologists and social workers; the Environmental Law Clinic coordinates its courses with the School of Natural Resources and the Environment; Economics and engineering students work side-by-side with law students on transactions supported by the Entrepreneurship Clinic and the International Transactions Clinic. and the Pediatric Advocacy Clinic works with health centers to resolve legal issues that affect the health of low-income children and their families. Most other clinics often rely on experts in other fields or work with them to represent their clients. Michigan Law has long been known for its distinctive educational blend of leading scholarly and legal practice. In today`s competitive environment, it is more important than ever for new graduates to get started in the practice of law. We are so committed to this formative experience that we guarantee every student at least one high school clinic, many of which take more. Intensive Law & Trial provides students with academic and professional information in the field of law by allowing them to slip into the roles of prosecution and defense legal teams to hear a case in the courtroom. Prepare yourself and take your case to court. Deal with ethical issues, create oral arguments, question witnesses – and at the same time strive for the final result of a simulated court trial. The conference, supported by the American Mock Trial Association, combines engaging discussions with faculty, analysis of key case studies, real-world guest speakers, and enriching off-campus tours. With clinical faculty as supervisors, students prepare for all aspects of their business, from interviewing clients and witnesses, hearing opposing counsel, writing briefs, conducting trials, and managing a variety of legal transactions. Michigan Law`s clinical education provides students with a unique opportunity to think critically and strategically about all aspects of client advocacy and practice by providing hands-on experience with all core competencies of legal practice.
Courses also emphasize basic knowledge of the U.S. legal system. Students are introduced to jurisprudence and culminate in a moot court competition where they apply what they have learned to a realistic and hypothetical court case. The Intensive Legal English (ILEP) program is a four-week intensive summer course that provides a valuable framework for incoming LLM students before they begin their studies. ILEP consists of five hours of live instruction, five days a week. Courses focus on English communication skills while providing basic knowledge of the U.S. legal system. During your time at NSLC, you will meet and learn from leaders in the legal community. In recent years, NSLC students have heard from special speakers, including Supreme Court justices, attorneys general, and experienced litigators. For over 30 years, IJ has hosted an annual law student conference with law students from across the country near our headquarters in Arlington, Virginia.
We are excited to continue to offer students the opportunity to participate in an immersive and hands-on day of learning in their own backyard. Our intensive legal courses are designed to complement legal theory and the skills students acquire in the classroom. IJ experts will teach participants about public interest law and how to put into practice what students have learned so far in law school. Our clinics cover a remarkable range of practice areas, including transactions, litigation and everything in between. Students represent children, families, small business owners and nonprofits, wrongfully convicted persons, victims of human trafficking, refugee claimants, start-ups and manufacturers, organizations that provide business solutions to some of the world`s most pressing problems, and individuals in need of central civil and criminal justice services. Made from a selection of the best coffees, Cafã© Noir offers you an excellent cup with an intense aroma and velvety taste. This roasted coffee is a revelation of sensations. Stanford Law School and Envision collaborated to provide students with the opportunity to better understand the legal profession and get a taste of law school. Experts from leading law firms specializing in legal writing, constitutional law, appellate law and more will tell you about the variety of areas of law available for study. The clinics provide students with hands-on experience to help clients who otherwise would not have access to quality legal representation and be a catalyst to transform clients` lives. For example, in its six years of existence, our DNA-free innocence clinic has already secured the release of 10 wrongly accused people. Public service is a core value of the law school, and public service on behalf of the broader community is an integral part of our clinical program.
This course is designed to provide students with a fundamental understanding of legal authorities and resources, as well as the research skills required in legal practice. The focus is on effective search strategies and evaluation of sources, both print and electronic. Intensive Law & Trial allows you to immerse yourself in the theory and practice of law and develop a roadmap to becoming a lawyer. In this 10-day program, you will be exposed to the practice of law, legal rhetoric, and ethics by outstanding jurists, including professors at Stanford Law School. You will also develop and practice essential legal skills, such as effective opening and closing arguments, case preparation, and preparing witnesses for cross-examination. Legal English can be difficult, even for English speakers. During ILEP, students learn and practice the oral and written communication skills necessary to succeed in their law courses and legal careers. Students will hone their skills through numerous opportunities to practice and ongoing feedback from teachers and colleagues throughout the program. Join other motivated high school students to get closer to a possible future career as a lawyer.
For more than 45 years, Michigan Law has offered clinics where students take responsibility for real clients with real legal needs. Students represent these clients under the supervision of experienced faculty in small, intense environments in classrooms, boardrooms, and courtrooms in Michigan and beyond. The law school`s commitment to a global perspective also permeates the clinics, providing students with experience in international politics and cross-border transactions. At the Human Trafficking Clinic, students work with legislators and international human rights organizations to combat modern slavery. The International Transactions Clinic, which represents clients in Tajikistan, Russia, Europe, Africa and the United States, encourages students to become lawyers for international transactions by providing students with hands-on experience, including preparing cross-border investment documents and advising clients on multinational compliance. NSLC`s Summer Law Program uses an interactive learning approach that gives you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the difficult complexities of litigation.
